" ..a lay that is almost sure to become a theatrical treasure in the future" - Marion Cox Dorset Echo
The play is touring through Autumn 2010 and spring 2011. See present productions for details. A
rehearsed play-reading of a brand new play by Peter John Cooper took place at the County Museum
Dorchester on Thursday 13th May The Thomas Hardy Gallery was open prior to and following the
performance. The play takes a fresh look at the world of Thomas Hardy exploring what it is like to
be in the orbit of a stellar charismatic. At the heart is Thomas Hardy's first wife Emma, his mother
Jemima, writer and friend The Honorable Mrs Arthur (Florence) Henniker, and an imaginary, but
likely, (ruined) maid in the household of the couple. Cleverly interwoven is some of the dialogue from characters such as Sue
Bridehead, Mrs Yeobright, Tess D'Urberville and Mrs William Marchmill. The story is a topical one of what can happen to the
relationships of the famous; told in a way that veers between dark and light, solemnity and humour. Tickets are available at
various venues (see present productions for details of tour, venues and box-offices).
